Seasonal Guide
Winter (Nov-Feb)
Pleasant weather across most of Tamil Nadu. Best time to visit. Chennai receives northeast monsoon rains in November-December. Hill stations can be cold (5-15°C).
Best for: Tourism, temple visits, beach activities
Summer (Mar-May)
Hot in plains (35-42°C). Hill stations like Ooty and Kodaikanal offer pleasant escape (15-25°C). Avoid Madurai and interior plains during peak summer.
Best for: Hill station visits, Courtallam waterfalls
Southwest Monsoon (Jun-Sep)
Western Tamil Nadu receives moderate rainfall. Eastern parts remain relatively dry. Western Ghats regions are lush and green. Some hill roads may be affected.
Best for: Western Ghats treks, waterfall visits
Northeast Monsoon (Oct-Dec)
Heavy rainfall along the eastern coast, especially Chennai. This is Tamil Nadu's primary rainy season. Cyclonic activity possible in Bay of Bengal.
Best for: Indoor cultural events, Chennai Music Season (December)
